Mangalore, Apr 5: In a startling revelation, an RTI application filed regarding Dr Mitra Hegde's claim as dentist to the President of India has proved her false.

It may be recalled that in 2010, Mangalore dentist Dr Mitra Hegde had made headlines for being chosen as the dentist to Pratibha Patil, the President of India. The city was elated at the news, and all the local media had celebrated her.

Dr Mitra Hegde

However, now, an application filed under the RTI act by Dr Shivasharan Shetty has revealed that no such appointment had been made, and Dr Mitra was given no such role.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday April 5, president of Nagarika Hitarakshana Samiti Hanumanth Kamath said that Dr Mitra had wrongly informed the media that she had been appointed as the dentist to the President of India, which goes against the rules and guidelines of the dentist association.

He further said that the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, to which Dr Shivsharan had applied for information, had clarified that 'Dr Mitra N Hegde has not been appointed as dentist to the President of India'.

In 2011, the state government had honoured her with the Rajyotsava Award for this achievement. "Now that Rashtrapati Bhavan itself has clarified, the award should be taken back," Kamath demanded.

He also said that the Karnataka dentist association is against its member publicizing such false claims for their personal advantage, and urged that action be taken againt Dr Mitra.

"It has also been proved that she misused her 'position' and collected exorbitant fees from her clients," he alleged.

He also demanded a public apology from Dr Mitra Hegde, and said that a complaint against her also already been given to Karnataka dentist association, the state governor, the Kannada and culture department (to revoke Rajyotsava Award) and the secretary to the President of India.

"The dentist association has already issued her a showcause notice," he informed, alleging that Dr Mitra had misguided the public without having any relevant documents with her as proof.

"This goes against the code of conduct of doctors," Kamath said.

The RTI letter (1145/RTI/09/11-12) dated October 17, 2011, which was recieved by Dr Shivasharan, states three important points:

- There is no panel of dentists to the President at present
- Dr Mitra Hegde has never treated the President
- Dr Mitra Hegde was never appointed as dentist to the President of India

Kamath also pointed out that Dr Mitra had claimed that the President had called her personally, "but that is impossible as the President works through her secretaries and does not call anyone personally,"

Kamath also slammed the media for highlighting her without verifying facts.

Dr Shivsharan Shetty, former secretary of the Karnataka State Branch of Indian Dental Association, was present.

I am shocked - Dr Mitra Hegde

In a statement to a mediaperson, Dr Mitra expressed her shock over the allegations and stood by her claims. She even said that the personal physician to the President too had visited her clinic in 2010, adding that she had been selected based on her merits.

Even if you are honorary doctor you will be having a letter.I know many doctors who have treated Late prime minister Indira Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi but they never revealed it to public. It is really a shock to me that our profession has gone to dogs .If she doesn't have any letter from president's office she should handover all the feliciations back and tender apology in public or else any lay man can file a police complaint and also can write a letter to sate dental council and also file a writ petition in high court.

Whether Dr. Mithra is Presidents doctor or not is different issue. Why fees she is charging is questioned? It is simple -jealousy of professionals and of success. Is Dr. Shetty trying to take any revenge on her or any members of her family? Why Rajyotsava award be withdrawn? Visit her clinic and you will see one of the best clinics in Karnataka. What about her service to society as a teacher? What is Dr. S. Shetty's contribution to society? Perhaps tarnishing somebodys image in society is his motto.

How come Dr.Shivasharan Shetty woke up now to announce about Dr. Mitra is not the official Dentist of the President of India. Dr. Mitra should bring some solid proof and shut the people's dirty mouth. Every body knows that she is a good dentist and some people are trying to spoil her image.

I am a patient of Dr Mithra, she is an amazing doctor, really smarts(look at her academic achievements)she is a down to earth and an a really sweet lady.

I got cosmetic work done on my teeth, one of my friends who is a dentist couldn't tell the difference between my real and fake tooth.her work is that extraordinary

It just looks a lot of professional jealousy from these men,who i am sure cannot match up to DR Mithra.  Finally she gave me all the options from the cheapest to the most expensive, unlike a lot of other doctors,so she is not one of those money hungry doctors.

I am quite surprised reading this article. I am a student of Dr. Mitra's . She is a great dentist and has served the people of Mangalore with great care for many years. Whether she is the dentist of the president of India or not, why does this matter so much? She is a good practitioner and a great teacher. Just because she is the president's dentist should not change anything in the way she takes care of her patients or charges them.

That is her relationship with her patients and if they agree to give her the fees she charges they must be very happy with her services.

I am curious to know what interest Dr.Shivasharan Shetty has in this affair. Why does this matter to him so much? Why is he so obsessed with Dr. Mitra's credentials and fame. Stop fighting like little children with the media as your little tool (pun intended).
There are two things Dr. Sharan Shetty might need to resolve this perplexing situation. One a visit to another kind of doctor to make sure his interests are not an obsession and another to the nearest barber,to take the locks away from his eyes to see this beautiful world for what it is and move on from this pettiness. I wish Dr. Mitra the best.

The report says that the letter recieved by Dr Shivasharan from RTI was dated Oct 17, 2011. When did Dr Shivsharan actually receive it? Why is it that the news is being disclosed after about 5 and half months? Is there something more than meets the eyes?

Also I fail to understand , if being appointed as Presidents Dentist is the only criteria for receiving Rajyotsava award.

Dr Mitra claims she has phone records of the appointment.
Let her show her official appointment letter from Rastrapathi Bhavan and shut everyone's mouth.
Even a "chota mota" company will give a appointment letter, and this is such a dignified post to the president.
Unbelievable that she did this and its a black mark on our community.

One can guess what our educated people are up to. Only for the sake of name, fame and to improve 'buisness' these people can go to any low. There are many such people around who pose their fake certificates only to get some kind of mileage. RTI act has shown how strong it is to unearth the truth. Let this lady dentist show the suporting documents pertaining to appointment as President's official dentist. If she doesn't have it, then she should apologise to the general public of Mangalore. At the same time the prestigious(?) 'Rajyotsava award' should be taken back from her so that in future people will think twice before doing any fraud like this. It is evident that the lady dentist is at fault as per the reports available in other mangalore based web magazines.

It is customary for emminent persons to be named Honorary Dentist or Physician to the President or Governor. It is only a recognition and does not indicate that the President has to be physically treated by such persons. The RTI reply has in all probability been issued without adequate verification as many persons are likely to be appointed thus. Please leave the poor woman alone!

What is the problem to Hanumanth Kamath or Shivashran if Dr Mitra treated President or not ? What you are going to loose? There are deaths in the city due to doctors neligence , where were you Mr Kamath and Shivsharan then ? and where was your nagarika samithi? This shows how really you are concerned.
Mr Kamath , There are many doctors in this city who are after publicity and on daily basis they address press conference. All their claims are the case they treated one in 7 lakhs , 8 lakhs. Did both of you ever bothered to verify the same and tried to enlighten the public ? Why you are crying now ? Look at all these multi speciality hospitals. They are just looting. And hello .... what about those doctors who are into politics, writing books and directors in banks etc etc. Are they giving their 100% to their profession and keep updating their knowledge ? In a way they are damaging the society. Either they should practice or choose politics, literature or banking. Why you are silent on them and singling out only Dr Mitra?

TO CLEAR THE AIR & CURIOUSNESS IN THIS ISSUE RASTRAPATHI BHAVAN SHOULD MAKE A OFFICIAL STATEMENT.As a matter of fact,Dentist Mithra Hegde still challenges the claim ,henceforth an official denial from the UNION HOME DEPARTMENT/MINISTRY or RASTRAPATHI BHAVAN is appropriate...
