Udupi, Dec 5: Manipal police on Thursday December 5 arrested a youth for allegedly luring a number of girls with promises of marriage and then blackmailing them by shooting obscene videos.

The accused has been identified as Ilyas (24) from Konaje, Mangalore.

He had reportedly taken a flat on rent at Perampalli for Rs 35,000 per month, giving his name as 'Rahul Shetty'.

Sources said that he would introduce himself as 'Rahul Shetty' to girls on social networking sites and then lure them with promises of marriage. He would take them to his rented flat or some lodge and shoot obscene videos, and then blackmail them to extort money and gold from them, it is learnt.

The incident came to light after he reportedly lured a girl from Kemtoor. As per the complaint, he took her to a lodge and shot her video, and blackmailed her into giving him gold worth ten sovereigns. When he demanded more, the girl revealed the incident to her family, who then approached the police.

On Thursday, as per the instruction of the Manipal police, the girl asked Ilyas to come to a particular place to meet her, and when he came there, the police arrested him.

It is learnt that Ilyas has cheated around 15-20 girls so far.

As soon as the news spread, members of VHP, Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations gathered at Manipal police station and started a flash protest demanding strict action against the accused.

Manipal circle inspector Dinesh Kumar, Udupi circle inspector Maruti Nayak, Manipal SI Ravi Kumar and other officials are investigating.

Difference between Love (Marriage) and Arranged (marriage)

LOVE-MARRIAGE: getting married to whom we loved.
ARRANGED MARRIAGE: getting married with someone else Loved and someone else getting married to whom we loved.

But Fake Love (marriage) is more dangerous.

These types of activity common in the society. If the victim is married or unmarried but making ladies fool by giving false promises is a common game for them. Request with all ladies please do not vanish your valuable life to such people. God has created pair for your to lead a beautiful life. So do not go behind the lavish life or glittering things they are nothing but fake. Also i would like to request all male mates to take care of their partner with all legal amenities and if not with true love, care and understanding. Because once you ignore them then she will become naked and people will spoil their valuable life. Also dear parents before giving your girls to anyone please make sure you know his detailed background so that you can save your loved one.

@ ap , mangalore . i do agree sex upon a false promise of marriage can b prosecuted. but trend is that its been highly misused . girls have their happy time , later harass their partner and then complaint . recently Bombay high court quashed the claim by girl , uphold the dignity of man. court rules when girl has intimacy upon the promise of marriage , its her responsibility itselr. Specially when girl is educated . u can google it. a girl can take any boy for a ride now a days on a false complaint , so should b careful. what about having written agreement and back up some.physical evidence.

However for some section of people they are always in doubt that these kind of things happen even though you arrest the person and even though that person accept his acts...sory guys i we cant help you , you will believe if its happens to anyone of your family!

As you said "they fall for it" So this is part of the falling itself. So these acting ignorant girls want to see only one side of the coin and enjoy. These incidents are not new.. Every now and then you read news of pregnancy with false marriage promises. These girls know men will not lose anything, its girls who lose everything from self respect in society to shame inside family. Still this keeps on happening right?
So until and unless some good amount of brain development happen nothing will change.
Falls will keep falling prey and take advantage of the laws!

I have 7 kids and 21 grandkids, 9 great grad kids, May b you are a kid Harry. I come with a long experience in my life that is why i am telling u be a friend in your family . Even i have such a big family this never happened in my family, so no question of hurting me Harry, but in india society is closer than here. Still girls doing this ,they meet in social network and doing their own, what u think then?. Why they cannot tell their parents when they met someone. If their parents are like a friend with them sure they will.

Harry hope u understand what is the drawbacks now. because your duty to be friend with your kids, Hope u never get this idea and keep a close relation to your household people, sure they will open with u at least 25% of what is going on? If you keep a distance in your family this is what is going to happen.. May be you settled in India and may be younger guy. Make sure whatever you wrote to me it wont hurt to you back.

How can a girl can get so close to a unknown person within a short period through social networking and visit to a lodge or his flat. If a person well known from college or working together or daily travelers then it is acceptable the serious crime of Iliyas else girls are equally responsible for the crime. The girls are well matured. Within in one meeting if a person promise of marry, how the girl agree without his background. Why the girls did not raised the alarm of help when he wants to shoot obscene videos. The lodge manager and the house owner should be taken into custody. How the manager gave the room to him without taking the full identity of girl and boy and what relation they have. Police should publish through newspapers to all lodge and house owners to check their background with photo identity like Aadher Card, Pan Card or ration card or passport.

If anyone lures a person into sex with the promise of marriage it amounts to Rape and the laws of rape will apply.
Blackmail comes under a different section and those laws apply.
In such circumstances gullible and innocents are victims.....could be from the good God fearing family too.

as along as all his relationships are consensual , he cannot b prosecuted. The false promise of marriage cannot be distance in consent and a girl is aware and equally a part of it. well fraud offences can b invoked against him. its one preference to practice polygamy and society should n liberal enough to accept it. it can b immoral but not illegal. hope his lawyers make note of it.

The question is how girls succumb to the promises of an unknown person. Yet one more case of consensual relationship and reason to blame. He took advantage because he used get positive response. Punish him (according to the number of girls he cheated i.e. 20 x 5 = 100 yrs in jail with hard labor) Even the girls who are involved deserve to undergo some treatment.

We simply blame such incidents as the effect of western culture. Broadly speaking, it is the effect of 'Hot blood'.

Never go alone when you do not know him. Take his identity card, driving licence or education certificate at least. Check his bank account if he ask for money. Always ask his full home address and names of parents also and try to visit before any deal. If he resists, then he is nakli. Never go to any lodge or hotel then it is your fault and masti.

Over the period Facebook has become fake book. It can be used only and only for marketing purpose to spread business awareness or even awareness. it is like mini media itself if it used in the correct way. For personal use, there is no security at all for users in Facebook. Even some school going kids have more than 5 accounts in different names. Now it is up to the individuals if they want to be fooled or cheated !!!

    Before forgetting the rape incident
in Manipal one more incidence of
Harassing girls in the same place.
From this we come to know how our
Law & Police force are very weak.
