Bhatkal, Aug 29 : In another 'harassment' incident from senior police officers, , Bhatkal city police station Sub-inspector (PSI) Revathi submitted her resignation to circle police inspector Suresh Nayak on Saturday August 28, protesting against the harassment from senior police official.
Revathi did not name any police officer’s name in the resignation. But she said “I have explained the kind of mental torture and harassment I was subjected while handling a case.”
Earlier, one Mohsin from Bhatkal had come to the police station for filing a complaint against six people who were giving life threat to him. But, it is learnt that, Revathi instead of registering a complaint, offered mediation in the case by calling both parties and wanted to settle the matter without filing FIR. However, Mohsin later complained to the senior officer that, Revathi instead of filing a case wasted the time by simply advising 'compromise' in the case. After investigating it is learnt that Bhatkal superintendent of police (SP) Vamshi Krishna suspended Revathi from duty.
Reacting to her suspension, Revathi said “I have never offered any compromise solution or dialogues, but was investigating the case by calling both parties. Mohsin had give a statement to me and different statement with senior police officer. It seems that something is wrong in the case. I am innocent, and victimised for no fault of mine. If there is any fault in my investigation, then senior officer should have guided me to handle the case.”

It can be recalled, DYSP Anupama Shenoy had resigned from police few weeks back protesting interference by senior police officers and from politicians which included a minister. DYSP Ganapathi suicide case also is said to have been caused due to harassment from seniors.

Mohsin says that he had to beg for more than 15 days for the complaint to be registered. “Inspector Revathi did not show any interest in the case. She wanted me to come to a compromise. The demand was Rs 5 lac first and then it was increased to Rs 20 lac after which I went to the police. Even after I complained to SP and IGP and they instructed to deal with my case, she did not register case.” he said.
Amzad, locals say, is from Udupi originally and now lives in Bhatkal and demands money from people who come from abroad. He also threatens them that he would create problems for them to go back abroad if money is not paid.
Inspector Kudagunta under instructions from superiors registered the case and arrested Amzad and another accused Alim on August 26.
Some sources said that Revathi sent her resignation after her suspension order came for not treating the case seriously. She has allegedly named ASP Anoop Kumar Shetty in her resignation letter for harassment.
It is yet to be seen what twist the case will take from now.
