Udupi, Dec 6: Rexon Melrick D'Souza (20),son of Felix D'Souza from Pilar village near Katapadi, who is charged with making a failed attempt to snatch away a chain from the neck of a woman, surrendered in the court here on Tuesday December 5. He has been accused of following a woman moving in a two-wheeler closely in his scooter and trying to snatch away a golden chain she was wearing around her neck near Bantakal within Shirva police station limits on November 18.
Blossom D'Souza, resident of Suraj House, Bantakal, was moving in her two-wheeler at 11 am on November 18 in front of a house belonging to Madhav Kamath, when an unidentified person who followed her in a scooter, tried to forcibly snatch away her chain. As the woman got alerted and offered resistance instantly, the man had escaped from the spot. The woman had steadfastly followed him thereafter till Bantakal downtown but the scooterist had escaped by speeding via Herur road.
The accused was wearing a monkey cap when the incident happened. His image was captured in the roadside CCTV camera. The police who tried to collect information about him had got to know that the offender was local student. They were searching for the student but the accused had succeeded in evading arrest. He surrendered in the court on Tuesday and succeeded in securing bail.
