Rajasthan police bust betting gang with colourful names


Jaipur, Oct 22 (IANS): Rajasthan police have busted a betting gang which was operating its illegal business using names of Hindu gods, besides others like 'chicken' and 'kilo'.

"The modus operandi of the gang was very different in this case as the accused were operating their betting business via 20-25 WhatsApp groups which were named after various gods and goddesses such as Govind Dev ji, Salasar Hanuman ji, Radha Krishna ji and other deities," said Additional Police Commissioner Ajaypal Lamba adding that "These bookies referred to the amount of Rs 1 lakh as 'kilo' and Rs one crore as 'chicken' on social media."

"We have arrested two bookies on charges of betting on IPL matches and amount worth Rs 4.19 crore in packets along with nine mobile phones and two counting machines, calculators and other such stuff were seized from their possession," he said.

The gang leader Rakesh Rajkot was conducting the online betting trade via a website - diamondexch.com and there were set login IDs and passwords too.

A firm RC Enterprises used to manipulate and channelise the funds in different cities. A total of 321 branches of this enterprise were launched in big cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Baroda, Bhavnagar, Kutch, Junagadh and Jaipur.

The branch of the same firm was being run in the walled city of Jaipur when police were informed.

Those arrested include accused Randhir Singh (45) from Gujarat and Kripal Singh Jodha (41), a resident of Kishangarh, Ajmer. Apart from this, two more persons, Ishwar Singh and Todarmal Rathore, found in the same room were also taken into custody and further investigations are on, said police officials.
