Mangaluru/Udupi, Feb 11: Police conducted route march in Surathkal as part of preventive measures in the wake of Hijab row on Friday February 11.
The highly trained 97th Battalion Rapid Action Force (RAF), who handle law and order issues took part in the march with 130 personnel.
DCP Hariram Shankar said, “The RAF will be pressed into action in case of any kind of issues in law and order. They will halt at Panambur. We will not allow any kind of confusion and ensure safety of the public.”

Meanwhile, Udupi police also conducted route march in the city.
Udupi district is in the headlines over hijab-saffron shawl row. To build confidence in the people and to maintain peace in the district, the Udupi police conducted the route march. The route march began from Udupi town police station along the city limits including Udupi city bus stand, service bus stand, Jodukatte and adjoining areas. As many as 238 police personnel including officers took part in the route march.
Udupi police superintendent N Vishnuvardhan said, “We have organised this route march to build confidence in the people. The route march is also a warning against the social offenders. Route marches were conducted in the Kundapur, Karkala and Kaup also. People need not worry. We have made necessary arrangements to begin schools from Monday. We will ensure complete safety of students when colleges begin.”
Udupi ASP Siddalingappa, said "A total of 238 police personnel along with officers have taken part in the rote march today. This route march is being conducted to build confidence in the public amidst the ongoing situation in the district. People need not worry to move freely.”
As a precautionary measure, police conducted route march in Kundapur city on the evening of Friday in the wake of Hijab-Saffron shawl issue that is prevailing in the state. The route march which began from Shastri Circle went through new bus stand and terminated at the originating point itself. The route march was led by DySP Srikant K, circle inspector Gopikrishna, PSI Sadashiva Gavaroji, rural station PSI Niranjan, traffic station PSI Sudha Prabhu, Shankarnarayana station PSI Sridhar Naik, Amasebailu PSI Subbanna, ASIs and personnel. Police personnel of KSRP women wing and personnel of two DAR companies were in the route march.
