Bengaluru, Feb 13: The State Assembly session will begin on Monday, February 14 for a period of 10 days. Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will address the joint session on the first day. As the Hijab and saffron Shawl controversy is rocking the state, there is a high possibility that it will be a bone of contention between ruling and opposition parties.
In addition to the Hijab-saffron shawl controversy, Congress and Janata Dal (S) are likely to raise the issues of law and order, river joining, Mekedatu project, crop insurance problem and sealing on the purchase of millet under support price.
Congress is going to hold its legislative party meeting on Monday. Strategies are expected to be chalked out in that meeting. JD (S) is also planning to draw the attention of the ruling BJP on the issues faced in constituencies represented by its MLAs.
JD (S) has asked its MLAs to make a note of the issues faced in the constituencies. Anti-religious conversion bill has not yet passed in the Legislative Council. As BJP has a majority in the council, it is expected that it will present the bill there.
It is learnt that the BJP has instructed its MLAs and ministers not to speak on the expansion of cabinet or reshuffle during the assembly session. The party has also asked its ministers to give more priority to departmental work as the budget session is scheduled to take place immediately after the joint session.
Speaker Vishweshwara Heggade Kageri said that providing two days for discussion on electoral reforms will be looked into. He said that the electoral reforms are extremely vital in democracy. He felt that the assembly should hold discussion in that direction. Leaders of all parties will be taken into confidence and the date and time will be fixed for the discussion on this topic as per the information given by speaker Kageri.
